Program

We are seeking dancers and musicians to participate in the festival.
If your group or organization is interested in performing on the main stage at the festival on the 12th or the 13th of August 2017, please send a brief bio of your group complete with pictures, Youtube links, website, Facebook page to the email address: program@festivalofindiaottawa.org

Vision

Our vision is to become the preeminent organization for promoting and developing a greater understanding and appreciation of the multicultural splendour and heritage of India, in all its facets, among Canadians.  

MISSION

Our mission is to offer the visitors and residents of the National Capital Region a world-class opportunity to experience and personally learn about the traditions, culture and heritage of India - and thus promote multi-cultural understanding, appreciation, harmony and peace; and enhance inter-cultural connectivity in Canada.  

OBJECTIVES

Our objectives are:
  • to showcase high quality Indian music and dance programs:
  • to engage our patrons with interactive and participatory programs that both entertain and educate about culture and heritage of India;
  • to present nutritious and tasty authentic ethnic food from different regions of India;
  • to present workshops that nourish the Body and Mind: on Wellness, Yoga, Meditation, Music, Arts, Dance and Cooking;
  • to organize discourses, discussions and debates on Indian inspired Culture and Philosophy;
  • to maintain a repository on sources of information on subjects including the Cultures, Festivals, Music and Dances, Philosophies, Literature and Cuisine of India.
  Festival of India is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in 2011.

FESTIVAL OF INDIA, OTTAWA is a premier Indian organization in the National Capital Region that celebrates Canada's multicultural heritage and provides opportunities for various cultures to meet annually face to face, to showcase their cultures in various ways, to appreciate and respect all cultures, and to make Canada the best place for all.

 

Festival of India, Ottawa accomplishes its vision and goals through:

  • the tireless and dedicated work of three hundred volunteers;
  • the understanding and generosity of many sponsors;
  • the appreciation and generous support of governmental agencies at all levels;
  • and the unstinting support and participation of more than 8000 visitors.

The three day extravaganza features superb musical and dance acts from India and North America, more than sixty workshops Yoga to Bollywood Dancing. In addition, more than twenty vendors satisfy the needs of their patrons with their wares ranging from Indian jewellery to quality handicrafts. There are Panel Discussions on important current topics by distinguished scholars. To top all these activities, the famed Indian cuisine from all regions of India, freshly prepared on site, delights the most demanding of palates.

Overview of Festival of India, Ottawa

Festival of India Ottawa is a premier annual cultural event, with an objective to enhance inter cultural connectivity and to promote multicultural understanding, appreciation, harmony and peace by providing a platform for all the communities to come and enjoy in a family friendly environment. We showcase the culture and heritage of India through multifaceted programs covering music, dance, arts, handicrafts, workshops, food, discussions, movies, documentaries – many of them interactive and all them educative and entertaining. It is one of the few Festivals in Canada with this distinction of covering so many different broad areas packed with many programs in 3 days.

Objective of the Essay Contest

To increase inter-cultural awareness, understanding, appreciation and respect, and promote harmonious living together.

Essay Topic

What the world needs now!

Essay Guidelines

The essay should be around 2000 words, to be submitted in word document or pdf. The competition is open to all. We encourage submissions from high school as well as college and university students. Please mention your grade, if you are a school student. Please provide your name, address, e-mail, and phone number along with the submission.

Assessment Criteria

Essay must be original and have not been published anywhere. Essay must provide references of sources cited. Entries will be assessed on clear expression of ideas as well as logical layout of arguments.

Announcement of Winning Submissions

Winning entries will be announced during the Festival of India, August 11, 12, 13 – 2017. Authors of the winning submissions will receive prizes and their submissions may be published in local newspapers and posted on Festival of India website. There will be 2 prizes for school students (grade 12 or lower) and 2 prizes for the rest, for a total of 4 prizes. The first prize will be a cash award for $200, and the second prize will be a cash award for $100 – in each category.

Due date for Submissions
