The three day extravaganza features superb musical and dance acts from India and North America, more than sixty workshops Yoga to Bollywood Dancing. In addition, more than twenty vendors satisfy the needs of their patrons with their wares ranging from Indian jewellery to quality handicrafts. There are Panel Discussions on important current topics by distinguished scholars. To top all these activities, the famed Indian cuisine from all regions of India, freshly prepared on site, delights the most demanding of palates.

Festival of India Ottawa is a premier annual cultural event, with an objective to enhance inter cultural connectivity and to promote multicultural understanding, appreciation, harmony and peace by providing a platform for all the communities to come and enjoy in a family friendly environment. We showcase the culture and heritage of India through multifaceted programs covering music, dance, arts, handicrafts, workshops, food, discussions, movies, documentaries – many of them interactive and all them educative and entertaining. It is one of the few Festivals in Canada with this distinction of covering so many different broad areas packed with many programs in 3 days.
To increase inter-cultural awareness, understanding, appreciation and respect, and promote harmonious living together.
What the world needs now!
The essay should be around 2000 words, to be submitted in word document or pdf. The competition is open to all. We encourage submissions from high school as well as college and university students. Please mention your grade, if you are a school student. Please provide your name, address, e-mail, and phone number along with the submission.
Essay must be original and have not been published anywhere. Essay must provide references of sources cited. Entries will be assessed on clear expression of ideas as well as logical layout of arguments.
Winning entries will be announced during the Festival of India, August 11, 12, 13 – 2017. Authors of the winning submissions will receive prizes and their submissions may be published in local newspapers and posted on Festival of India website. There will be 2 prizes for school students (grade 12 or lower) and 2 prizes for the rest, for a total of 4 prizes. The first prize will be a cash award for $200, and the second prize will be a cash award for $100 – in each category.
